On the coast…
Taking the coast road from Sion sur l’Ocean to St Gilles Croix de Vie you will discover a superb panorama with uninterrupted view of the sea, occasionally interspersed with rugged rocks such as les Cinq Pineaux or the Trou du Diable.
Shoreline fishers will love the sandy beaches where there is a wealth of shell fish – cockles and clams to name but a few – just waiting to be found and cooked! What’s more, the kids love it!
Situated half way between St Jean de Monts and St Gilles Croix de Vie, St Hilaire de Riez boasts 13km of sandy beaches. Expansive beaches and small coves lie side by side and are surrounded by nature. The pine forests that border the beaches give the coastline its unspoilt character. Take time to stroll through them and discover the beauty for yourself!
The beach situated just 900m from Camping La Paree Preneau can be accessed through the local pine forest, which boasts a wide array of plants and vegetation.
The wide network of cycle paths allows you to discover our wonderful coastline with its thousand and one landscapes. Visit the rocky beaches, the village of Sion sur l’Ocean, the salt marshes or the forest with its sand dune border before arriving at the Atlantic Ocean where you can view the Ile d’Yeu or the Ile de Noirmoutier.
So close to the Atlantic, it is not surprising that the Vendee region is a magnet for water sport enthusiasts and fishers alike, all seeking the salty air to practise their favourite pastime: sand yachting, surfing, wind surfing, paddleboarding…
And if you are lucky enough to see it, the firework display over the beach at Sion will remain in your memory for a long time.
Away from the coast, enjoy the natural countryside and take in the scenery and pure air.
Discover the Marais Breton with its magical atmosphere, the river Vie which runs through St Hilaire de Riez along with the local vegetation (of which many species are protected).
La Bourrine du bois juquaud: visit this little hamlet with its traditional houses that are part of French heritage and experience the way of life of our ancestors. See how they lived, cooked and worked. You may even pick up a recipe or two!
From little villages and seaside towns, each with its own authentic charm, to the natural beaches and coastal walks, come and discover the wonders of the Vendee…
l’île de Noirmoutier, Notre Dame de Monts, Sion l’Océan, St Jean de Monts, l’Ile d’Yeu, St Gilles Croix de Vie, etc.
